Phases

Formats

A phase is one round of play in a category. Each has one of three formats.

The first step of "Add a phase": the three formats to choose from
  • Group: everyone plays everyone in their group.

  • Knockout: lose and you're out, or play on for your exact place.

  • Swiss system: a set number of rounds, paired on results so far. Nobody is knocked out.

Adding a phase

You open Add a phase from Add the first phase, from Add and Phase, or below the diagram.

  1. What format is this phase?

  2. The size: a knockout's Draw size, the groups' split with Suggested or Custom constellation, or a Swiss system's Rounds.

  3. Knockout only: How many places are played out?

  4. From the second phase on: Who plays in this phase?, with Players come from, Who advances and How many advance.

  • Advanced settings: the name and Best of.

Rules

A rule sends players from one phase to a later one. In the diagram it is a line, and its dot shows how many it sends.

A group stage sends places 1–2 of each group to the main draw and places 3–4 to the consolation draw beside it
  • New: the + on a phase, or Add and Rule. Then From phase, To phase and the kind, such as Rank range, per group, Rank range, whole phase, Winners of a round or Everyone remaining.

  • Click a rule's dot to open it: Edit rule, or Delete and Delete for sure?.

  • Each player belongs to the first rule that matches, in the order the rules were added. Everyone remaining catches whoever no earlier rule takes.

Main draw and consolation

Two phases in one row run side by side, such as a main draw and its consolation draw, as in the picture above.

  • The ⋯ on a phase: under Place beside, pick the phase it should stand next to. Move out of row puts it on its own again.

  • A consolation draw gets its players by a rule, like any phase. In the wizard, that is The worst players.

Taking over results

With Take over results from earlier phases, players who already met in an earlier phase don't play again. That result counts here.

  • Set it in the wizard's Who plays in this phase? step, or later on the phase's page.

  • A match taken over says which phase it came from.

States and warnings

Every phase shows its state. Pills and dots on the lines show what doesn't add up.

Three groups send only six players into a knockout of eight, and no rule takes places 3–4
  • State: Not drawn, Running or Complete. When a phase can be drawn, it shows a yellow Draw now.

  • Orange pill on a phase, such as 6 / 8: more or fewer players arrive than the draw size holds.

  • Orange dot on a line from nowhere: no rule points at this phase.

  • Red pill below a phase: players no rule takes on. Inside are Add a rule and Eliminate them. While the phase isn't finished, the pill is dashed.

  • Grey pill: eliminated or withdrawn. Put them back undoes eliminating.

  • Orange text under a group stage: the group sizes don't fit the field.

Moving and deleting

The ⋯ on a phase moves or deletes it.

  • Move up, Move down, Move out of row or Place beside. You can drag the card too.

  • Delete phase, then Yes, delete it.
