Getting started

What Telvin is

Telvin runs table tennis tournaments: a tournament has categories, and a category has players and phases.

A tournament with three categories. In the first, a group stage sends places 1 and 2 on to a knockout.
  • Tournament: name, date, place and the number of tables.

  • Category: one competition, such as Men A or Under 15, in singles or doubles. A player can enter several.

  • Phase: a group stage, a knockout or a Swiss system. Rules say who goes on from one phase to the next.

How a tournament runs

Eight steps lead from a new tournament to its certificates.

The eight steps, as the buttons you press along the way
  1. New tournament: a name, date and place are enough, then Create tournament. The rest can wait; see Tournaments.

  2. Name the category, choose singles or doubles, then Add category. See Categories.

  3. Add the players: find them in your roster or create them. In doubles, Pair the players follows; see Doubles. More in Players.

  4. Add the first phase: a group stage, a knockout or a Swiss system. More phases, and the rules between them, come after; see Phases.

  5. Once a phase can be drawn, it shows Draw now. Check the suggestion, then Confirm draw. Only now do the matches exist; see The draw.

  6. Print score cards on the phase's page. Each card carries a short card code; see Score cards.

  7. Type the result straight into the match on the phase's page. It saves as soon as you move on. Or use fast entry with the card code. Standings and brackets update on their own; see Playing.

  8. Ranking shows who finished where (see The ranking), and leads to Print certificates (see Certificates).
