Questions and answers
Account and tournaments
Why doesn't my tournament change when I change the general settings?
Most general settings are starting values for new tournaments and phases. An existing tournament is changed in its own settings; see General settings.
What happens if I delete a tournament?
Every category, draw and result is gone, and the public link stops working. Your roster stays; see Deleting a tournament.
What happens if I delete my account?
Your account, every tournament, your roster and your settings are deleted, and public links stop working. It can't be undone; see Profile and deleting your account.
Players and pairs
Why isn't a new player playing?
The phase was already drawn. Anyone added afterwards only plays once you draw it again; see Drawing again.
Why is a player missing from the draw?
In doubles only complete pairs are drawn, and withdrawn players never are. The notes above the board name them; see Drawing a phase.
Why doesn't the rating change in the tournament?
The rating is copied into the tournament when the player is added, and each level keeps its own from then on. Change it where it should apply; see Three levels.
Why doesn't my rule catch a player?
A player without a rating, date of birth or gender matches no rule that asks for it; see Adding by rule.
What happens if I remove a player?
Their place in every drawn match is left empty. Mid-tournament, Withdraw is usually right; see Editing and removing.
Can I merge two entries for the same person?
No. That is why Telvin asks when you create someone whose name is already there; see Duplicate players.
Phases
What does Not going anywhere yet mean?
No rule takes these players on to another phase. Add a rule, or eliminate them; see States and warnings.
Why do too many or too few players arrive?
The rules send more or fewer players than the Draw size holds, such as 6 / 8. Change the draw size or the rules; see States and warnings.
Why does Telvin take the best overall instead of per group?
Top of each group only works when the number divides by the number of groups. Otherwise Telvin takes the best overall; see Rules.
Why is a player out when I never eliminated them?
Eliminate them applies to the phase, not to single players. Whoever ends up without a rule there later, such as after a changed result, is out too; see Knocked out.
What happens if I delete a phase?
Its matches and results go with it, and so does every rule pointing at it; see Moving and deleting.
The draw
Why can't I draw this phase yet?
A phase its players come from isn't drawn yet, or fewer than two players arrive. The page says which; see Drawing a phase.
Why can't I confirm the draw?
The bar at the bottom names what's missing: players not placed yet, a group with one player, a match with two byes, or a Draw size too small; see Confirming.
Why is the draw the same every time?
Nothing is drawn by lot: the proposal follows the seeding exactly. For a different draw, change the seeding or move players; see Automatic or manual.
What happens to the results if I draw again?
They are deleted, every match gets a new card code, and printed score cards no longer count. Telvin asks first; see Drawing again.
Why can't I change the format or the groups any more?
The Format is fixed while the draw stands. Changing Groups, Draw size or Places means drawing again, and Telvin asks first; see Drawing again.
Playing and results
Why is my result refused?
A game goes to 11, and from 10:10 it needs a two-point lead. So 12:9 or 11:10 can't be a final score; see Entering results.
What happens if I change a result in a knockout?
The next round follows. If the next match was already played, it keeps its players, and the card says so; see Changing and clearing.
Why doesn't a correction change the next phase?
Once the next phase is drawn, only a new draw takes the correction over; see Changing and clearing.
Why can't I change a taken-over result here?
It belongs to the earlier phase it comes from, and is changed there; see Taking over results.
Why is a player ahead although they lost head-to-head?
Head-to-head doesn't count. After wins come set difference, point difference, then the seeding; see Standings and their order.
Why are there no points in the table?
The tournament enters sets only, under Result entry. After sets, the seeding decides; see Standings and their order.
Why can't I pair the next Swiss round?
The round still has open matches, every set round has been played, or everyone has played everyone; see Swiss system.
Withdrawals
What happens to a withdrawn player's matches?
Their results stay, and their open matches go to the opponents as walkovers; see Withdrawing.
Why is a withdrawn player last despite their wins?
In a group or a Swiss system they finish last, whatever they won; see In the table.
What happens if I reinstate a player?
They are back in every later draw, and Telvin offers to reopen their walkovers. A result entered since then stays; see Reinstating.
Tournament day
Why is a table taken?
A table holds at most one match without a result. It is free once the result is complete, or with Clear table; see Tables.
Why does a match have no table box?
It is a walkover and isn't played. Enter a real score and the box comes back; see Walkovers.
Why are matches missing from the score cards?
Byes and taken-over results get no card. And the first tab holds only cards not yet marked as printed; see Score cards.
Why does fast entry find a different match?
A mistyped card code can hit another real match. Compare the names with the slip before saving; see Fast entry.
Sharing and certificates
Why don't spectators see a new result?
The public page is as current as its last reload. The presentation loads every slide fresh; see What spectators see.
Why doesn't the presentation show a phase?
The phase or its category isn't ticked under Slides. A phase not drawn yet only appears if you tick it; see Choosing slides.
What happens if I revoke the link?
Every copy stops working at once, the presentation in the hall included. A new link gets a different address; see Revoking the link.
Why do two players get 3rd place on their certificates?
Without a match for third, both beaten semifinalists get 3rd place. The list still numbers them 3 and 4; see Certificates.
